GIVING FIRST AID TO KIDS

Description
This course provides the knowledge and skills required to give rescue breathing and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and to manage some life-threatening emergencies common to infants and children.
Content Overview
• Assessment of an emergency situation
• Assessment of a casualty’s vital signs
• Recognition and management of:
- Seizures and convulsions
- Asthma
- Choking
- Poisoning
- Soft tissue injuries and basic wound care
- Life-threatening bleeding
- Unconsciousness
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (variations for adults, children and infants)
• Assessment of need for and obtaining emergency services or medical assistance

7 hours
Trainer/Assessors
PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainers who are registered nurses or ambulance officers that have at least Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Assessment
Students’ performance in relation to the CPR unit’s competency elements are assessed.
Award and Validity
A Statement of Attainment is issued on successful completion the CPR competency unit, HLTCPR201A Perform CPR and the Statement is current for 12 months.
A Statement of Participation is issued for successful completion of the Giving First Aid to Kids program.
