INTRODUCTION TO FIRST AID

Description
This course is perfect for groups of people, for example parents and grandparents, partners, who have no formal workplace/community responsibility for giving first aid but wish to have the knowledge and skills to recognise and provide basic emergency life support (excluding respiratory and cardiac resuscitation).
Content Overview
- Assessment of an emergency situation
- Assessment of a casualty’s vital signs
- Recognition and management of:
- Asthma
- Choking
- Life-threatening bleeding
- Unconsciousness in a breathing casualty
- Assessment of need for and obtaining emergency services or medical assistance

Trainer/Assessors
PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainers who are registered nurses or ambulance officers that have at least Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Assessment
Students’ performance in relation to the unit’s competency elements is assessed.
Award
A Statement of Participation is issued to participants.
