INFECTION CONTROL IN WORKPLACES

Description
This public health-oriented course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to use infection control measures to ensure safe work practices including the treatment of contaminated environments and items safely, self-protection and hygiene; prevention of infection, management of contaminated waste, cleaning and disinfection of contaminated surfaces and items in accordance with organisational infection control procedures.
Content Overview
• Definition of infection control
• Communicable diseases including blood borne viruses and their transmission
• Infection control principles
• Standard precautions to prevent disease transmission
• Precautions to protect workers and people including injured casualties
• Collection and disposal of syringes
• Management of needle stick injuries and blood spills
• Infection control policy and guidelines relevant to the workplace
• Skills required to handle and dispose of a syringe in a variety of situations

Trainer/Assessors
PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainers who are registered nurses or ambulance officers that have at least Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Assessment
Students’ performance is assessed.
