IEMR Refreshing Competencies (Previously IEMR Re-Accreditation
(Immunisation Emergencies Management and Resuscitation)

Description
This course assesses current competency regarding the knowledge and skills required to recognise and manage immunisation adverse events, and to provide CPR within an immunisation context; the course also provides updated knowledge about managing an appropriate emergency response system and equipment.

- Assessment of the emergency situation
- Assessment of vital signs
- Recognition and management of immunisation adverse event including:
- Anaphylaxis
- Shock
- Fainting
- Seizures
- Hypotonic/hyporesponsive episodes
- Rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - adults, children and infant variations
- Assessment of need for and obtaining emergency services or medical assistance
- Adrenaline administration and additional resuscitation techniques for use in managing anaphylaxis
- Incident communication and documentation
- Emergency procedural planning
- Developing an immunisation emergency policy and plan
- Emergency equipment - selecting appropriate equipment – sole immuniser and immunisation team kits
- Resources for emergency resuscitation procedures and equipment.
Course Delivery Options
OPTION 1
Refreshing IEMR Competencies - Standard
1 Day Training Workshop & Assessment
Cost: $199 per person
This option suits nurse immunisers who prefer some flexibility in how they use their time. There is preparatory self-study prior to a trainer-facilitated workshop and a study kit is sent upon registration. Following self-directed learning, the summary questions are completed. In the workshop, essential information is discussed with a review of students’ answers, changes highlighted, practice issues examined, skills demonstrated, practised and assessed and concludes with a multiple choice assessment.
Trainer/Assessors
PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainer/assessors who have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and experience as highly skilled nurses or paramedics.
Assessment
Students’ performance in relation to the course’s competency elements is assessed.
Award
A Statement of Attainment is issued on successful completion of the CPR competency unit and is current for 12 months and a Statement of Participation is issued on completion of the IEMR Competency Refresher Program.
