CPR and Adrenaline auto-injector administration

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills to provide CPR in a medical emergency, to recognise a life threatening allergic reaction and to competently administer adrenaline via a preloaded injecting device. This course is suited to those working in children’s services as it fulfills the requirements of Section 65 of the Children’s Services Regulations.

- Assessment of an emergency situation
- Assessment of a casualty’s vital signs
- Recognition and management of an unconscious casualty
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - adult, children and infant variations
- Understanding the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Cultural awareness & sensitivity
- Infection control principles and procedures
- Critical incident stress management
- Obtaining emergency services or medical assistance
- Communication and documentation of the incident details
- Assessment of the situation and recognition of anaphylaxis
- Administration of adrenaline and appropriate first aid

Assessment
Students’ performance in relation to the unit’s competency elements is assessed.
Award
A Statement of Attainment for the unit HLTCPR201A Perform CPR as well as a Statement of Attendance for the adrenaline auto-injector administration is issued to participants on successful completion.
