AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION (excluding CPR)

Description
The course in Automated External Defibrillation is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to provide automated external defibrillation until the arrival of medical assistance.
Content Overview
- Assessment of the situation and recognition of a casualty who is unconscious, non-breathing with no other signs of circulation
- Provision of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required
- Operation of the automated external defibrillator
- Assessment and obtaining emergency services or medical assistance
- Communication of the details of the incident

Entry requirements
Participants must be able to demonstrate current competence in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTCPR201A) to receive an accredited Statement of Attainment, otherwise a Statement of Participation will be issued.
Trainer/Assessors
PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainers who are registered nurses or ambulance officers that have at least Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Assessment
Students’ performance in relation to the course’s competency elements is assessed.
Award
A Statement of Attainment will be issued on successful completion of this course and is current for 12 months.
