Course Description
This short course is designed to develop skills and knowledge to enable you to safely apply and operate an automated external defibrillator until the arrival of medical assistance.

- Assessment of the situation and recognition of a casualty who is unconscious, non-breathing with no other signs of life
- Apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required
- Operate the automated external defibrillator and follow the prompts accordingly
- Monitor the casualty's condition and respond accordingly
- Obtain emergency medical assistance
- Communicate details of the incident
Assessment
To be judged competent in the unit VU20299 Apply automated external defibrillation, participants are required to:
- Demonstrate competent performance applying and operating an automated external defibrillator
- Participant in 1 first aid problem-solving scenario and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills specified for the unit.

A current Statement of Attainment in the unit HLTCPR201B Perform CPR is a pre-requisite for entry into this training program.
