Course Description

This short course is designed to develop skills and knowledge to enable you to safely apply and operate an automated external defibrillator until the arrival of medical assistance.

• Assessment of the situation and recognition of a casualty who is unconscious, non-breathing with no other signs of life
• Apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required
• Operate the automated external defibrillator and follow the prompts accordingly
• Monitor the casualty's condition and respond accordingly
• Obtain emergency medical assistance
• Communicate details of the incident

Assessment

To be judged competent in the unit VU20299 Apply automated external defibrillation, participants are required to:

1. Demonstrate competent performance applying and operating an automated external defibrillator
2. Participant in 1 first aid problem-solving scenario and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills specified for the unit.

A current Statement of Attainment in the unit HLTCPR201B Perform CPR is a pre-requisite for entry into this training program.
