Description

This unit develops the skills and knowledge for the provision of advanced first aid resuscitation techniques, life support, and management of the casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other first aiders.

  • Assessment of need for and obtaining emergency services ormedical assistance
  • Coordination of first aid activities until arrival of medical/emergency assistance
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Incident communication and documentation
  • Evaluation of the incident
  • Critical incident stress management
  • Legal and social responsibilities of a first aider
  • Material safety data sheets
  • Occupational health & safety requirements in the provision of first aid
  • Safe storage and handling procedures for pressurized gases
  • Use of AED, oxygen, oropharyngeal airways, manual and oxygen powered suction
  • Incident management procedures including manual handling; hazardous substances, dangerous goods or chemicals

Assessment

To be judged competent in this unit, participants are required to:

  1. Participate in 2 first aid critical incident problem solving scenario excercises and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills specified for this unit.
  2. Complete knowledge questions.

Course Duration

8 hours face-to-face training and assessment.

Trainer/Assessors

PREMIUMHEALTH provides trainer/assessors who have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and experience as highly skilled nurses or paramedics.

  • At your venues in most Australian locations – for which a set course fee or group minimum applies.
